About the Artist

Daedra fashions herself a "baby ceramicist." She has been making pottery for a couple of years, and focuses on functionalware with an aesthetic that is highly nature-inspired. Think ice flows, moss, rust, dirt, volcanic ash, ocean currents, sand dunes. Her design sense is influenced by her travels, her connection to a stillness that she can only find in nature, and an obsession with the intersection between rustic and modern, ancient and new-age. A lawyer by training, Daedra is drawn to the practical - things you can use everyday, things that makes sense, things the fit into normal life. However, she refuses to be put in a box - even one she made for herself - which comes through in her designs.

Grounding

Daedra finds most of the inspo for her ceramics in nature - whether conscious or not. She is constantly pulling from the times when she has felt most peaceful, most at east, most present. The color palette she uses is inspired by these moments. They feel relevant, relatable, and approachable - and that's how she wants her work to feel.

Big Bowls

At Unhinged, we love a set. Throwing matching sets is a challenge, and Daedra is always up for it. But her favorite thing to throw is gigantic bowls. They just keep getting bigger and bigger.

Growth

Daedra started ceramics as a hobby, but quickly realized she doesn't know how to have hobbies. An athlete for many years, she is relentlessly competitive with herself. Thus, what began as an artistic pursuit meant to offer relief from reality transformed into a business at lightning speed. She just couldn't help it. Whoops.
